CEO, Trade Finance Specialist
Peter Martin is a structured trade and commodity finance specialist with over four decades of experience across global banking and financial markets. Having commenced his career with Barclays Bank in 1981 and later joining ABSA in 1988, he played a pioneering role in developing off-balance-sheet financing structures to support commodity supply chains in South Africa following the disbanding of the Grain and Agricultural Boards. Recognising the success of these structures, ABSA established a dedicated division under his leadership, which he scaled across Africa and into international markets. He was subsequently invited to Barclays Bank Plc in 2003 and Standard Chartered Bank in 2007 to establish and lead similar specialised platforms focused on global trade and agricultural finance. Peter retired from Standard Chartered in 2011 as Global Managing Director: Structured Agricultural Finance, and has since focused on developing innovative financing solutions for SMMEs globally, while advising, training, and supporting financial institutions and investment platforms in structured trade and commodity finance.
